When the Federal Government modified The Civilian Board of Contract Appeals in August, their goal was to:
“. . . resolve disputes between applicants and the Federal Emergency Management Agency as to funding for public assistance applications arising from Hurricane Katrina and Rita damage.”
The quick version? The special arbitration panel hears from all sides, and is supposed to rule within 60 days.
While at least five Mississippi communities are seeking arbitration, according to AL.com, many Alabama communities have been slow to warm to the program.
If your community is still trying to sort out federal assistance stemming from the 2005 hurricane season, it may wish to consider having a look into the arbitration program (and don’t forget our StormSmart Coasts After the Storm section).
